Asmachilca

Asmachilca (Aristigueitia ballii) is used to treat respiratory system disorders like allergies, bronchial asthma, and common colds. It is said that one glass of asmachilca tea made from leaves, stems, and flowers at night may greatly reduce bronchitis and asthma problems. It clears up mucus, eases breathing, and the results are visible after few days of usage.
To make asmachilca tea, boil 3.5 grams of powder per 1/2 liter of water for 5 to 7 minutes or make a sun tea for several hours.
Warning: Drink only one glass at night before going to bed since it produces strong sweating. Do not use more than 5 grams per day, as a larger dose may produce tachycardia (increased heart rate).
Asmachilca contains among its compounds, eupatorinosid glycoside, tannins, mucilages and pectoral substances. It is used as a broncho-dilating plant which is administered during inter-crisis periods or when the asthmatic crisis is starting. Biological tests and experimental studies provide references on its hypotensor and hypothermal action. The mechanisms responsible for its benefitial effects are not known but may be related to relaxation to flat muscles, which would as well explain its broncho-dilating action. Its traditional use is by oral intake.
ELF supplies Asmachilca as powdered and tea cut leaves.
